I was really looking forward to reading this book however when I first took it out of the Amazon package i was disappointed with how short it was. I read through it in one night and sure enough it lacked detail I was really hoping Laura would share. For instance the struggle of getting pregnant was a short paragraph I would have loved to hear more about the adoption issues with her second child. The finding time to go back and train was well under a page and learned a new dive was a sentence. She writes about Covid in less than a paragraph. She could have shared feelings & thoughts like how long until she started diving again during the pandemic and how the pandemic affected her. She also made one reference in a sentence about having to downsize their house which really would have been wonderful if she opened up and shared more. So many of us older people don’t do things bc it’s taking a chance and costs money. I could have easily been entertained with a book 3x the length having more specific details. This is a quick read and a great opportunity to learn about Laura Wilkinson’s diving journey and her courageous comeback. I was left wanting so much more- there is way more to this amazing athlete’s story and I hope she’ll share more someday. I hope she’ll consider expanding this or adding sequels after trials because I have a feeling she has so much more to say. I’d love to hear more about her childhood, her mom who was willing to drive her to a diving facility after a chance conversation with a friend, and especially the mystery diving technique that she nailed on the first attempt after years out of the pool after attempting to master it for her entire career. Coach Kenny sounds like an amazing mentor and I would also love to read what he has to say about Laura Wilkinson. This is a great book for any female athlete wondering how long they should stay in the game or if they can make a comeback.
